'Fair Isle' Flower Baby Hat

Knitting from a chart can be very confusing !

But well worth while - if you can get your head around it - as this pretty little hat shows !



Fair Isle Flower Newborn Baby Hat

 
Size:

Width:    5 ½ “ (14cm)   11” (28cm) all around 

Height:   5 ½ “ (14cm)

 
Requirements:

DK yarn in two colours which look good together

M = Main colour                C = Contrast colour

 
4mm needles

 


Instructions:

Using M, cast on 64sts

Work 10 rows in 2 x 2 rib.

11th Row:      S1, knit to end

12th Row:      S1, purl to last st, k1

Add in C, and work the following 14 rows following the chart (4 repeats)




Cut off C

27th Row:      S1, knit to end

28th Row:      Kfb, purl to last st, k1                             65sts

 


Shape the top ~
1st  Row:  (K6, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                   57sts
2nd, 4th,6th,8th,10th  Rows:  Purl
3rd  Row:  (K5, k2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                  49sts
5th  Row:  (K4, k2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                   41sts
7th  Row:  (K3, k2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                   33sts
9th  Row:  (K2, k2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                   25sts
11th  Row (K1, k2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                   17sts
12th  Row (P2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                           9sts
Cut yarn (leaving a long ‘tail’ to use for sewing up), draw the end through all stitches, pull up tightly.
Sew up the seam.  Darn away ends.
